What is Weatherization?

Weatherization is a term used to describe the process in which buildings are made more energy efficient. This is accomplished by implementing energy conservation measures such as insulation, weather stripping, solar screens to reduce the heat loss and gain of the building. The weatherized building then requires less energy to heat and cool, resulting in lower utility bills and a healthier environment.

The “Building As A System” approach treats buildings as a single system, rather than as set of independent systems such as HVAC, electrical and plumbing. Taking the building as a whole and using diagnostic skills and knowledge of proper installation techniques the auditors and installers are able to effectively direct building owners on how their money can best be spent to reduce their energy use.
